Quinta da Romeyra
Quinta da Romeyra is one of the top estates in Bucelas, in the Lisboa region, Portugal's only appellation just for white wine. It has 75 hectares on clay and limestone, almost all planted with Arinto, and is believed to be the largest Arinto vineyard anywhere.
The estate has a colourful past. In the Peninsular War the Duke of Wellington made it his headquarters, took a liking to the wine and carried some home to London as a gift for King George IV. Charles Dickens and Lord Byron became fans. The first written record of the place dates from 1218, and in 2025 its old spelling was brought back.
The Guedes family bought it in 2018 and have put a lot into the vines. Luís Cabral de Almeida has made the wine since 2023. Expect zesty Arinto, from crisp and unoaked to oak-aged and sparkling.
