Raventós i Blanc

Raventós i Blanc is a historic Catalan sparkling wine estate run by Pepe Raventós. His family have grown grapes since 1497, and in 1872 an ancestor made the first Spanish sparkling wine by the traditional method.

Winery at Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, Catalonia.

Pepe's grandfather, Josep Maria Raventós i Blanc, was a big figure in Spanish wine and helped get Cava its official status. In 1986 he sold out of Codorníu and started this estate, using the family's first vineyards near Sant Sadurní d'Anoia. Pepe trained with growers in Burgundy, Champagne and the Loire, then in 2012 left the Cava DO to focus on their own Conca del Riu Anoia area.

The 50 hectares sit among woods, on limestone full of sea fossils, split into 44 plots. Farming is biodynamic, with horse ploughing and lots of other crops and animals. Every wine is vintage-dated, from local grapes, aged at least 18 months.
