Restless River

Restless River began as a hobby. In 2004 Craig Wessels, a self-taught winemaker, and his wife Anne bought a tired old sheep farm in South Africa's Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, hoping to raise their family away from city life.

By luck, the farm had the area's oldest surviving Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon vines. Looking after them became a passion, and Craig began making wine in a converted garage. The wines were launched in 2012. Ocean breezes, cloud cover and height make this one of the coolest spots in South Africa, ideal for elegant wines.

Craig calls himself a farmer first and spends most of his time in the vines, farming organically. Wines are made with wild yeasts and aged in bottle for nine to 21 months before release. Expect fine Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet.
