Producer Marlborough, New Zealand
Ribbonwood
Ribbonwood is made by Framingham winemaker Andrew Brown in Marlborough. The name comes from the ribbonwood trees growing around the vineyard near Renwick. It is the tallest native New Zealand tree to lose its leaves in winter.
The team take looking after their land seriously. They have put in over 1,000 native trees and shrubs for wildlife, improved how they handle waste water, and use lightweight bottles and recycled cartons. The focus is on mature and old vines in the Wairau Valley. The Sauvignon Blanc block runs east to west, which shades one side of each row and lifts the gooseberry notes.
Lots of small parcels are fermented separately, giving plenty of options when blending. Expect zesty Sauvignon Blanc full of passion fruit, and a ripe but lively Pinot Noir with savoury herbs.
