Sattlerhof

Sattlerhof is a family estate in Gamlitz, in Austria's Südsteiermark near the Slovenian border. The Sattlers have been making wine on the farm since 1887. In the 1960s they were among the first locals to bottle quality dry whites under their own name.

Wilhelm and Maria Sattler own the 35 hectares, but their sons now run things: Alexander looks after the vines and Andreas makes the wine. The vineyards are farmed on organic and biodynamic lines, and the estate wines are Respekt-certified.

Südsteiermark is great Sauvignon Blanc country, and the range runs from regional to village and single-vineyard wines, with top sites classified by the STK growers' group. Expect bright, aromatic Sauvignon, a Chardonnay-led blend and a noble sweet wine.
