Specogna
The Specogna family have 25 hectares on Rocca Bernarda, a hill right in the middle of Friuli's Colli Orientali. Brothers Michele and Cristian farm the vines organically in a dramatic natural amphitheatre, so the fruit that reaches the winery is spotless.
With grapes that good, they like to get every bit of flavour out of them. Their Pinot Grigio sits on its skins for a day or so before fermenting, which gives it a coppery "ramato" colour and real intensity. It is fashionable now, but the family has always made it this way.
Expect spicy, fresh Ribolla Gialla, a powerful Friulano with exotic fruit and white pepper, and a bold Refosco.
