Tablas Creek

Tablas Creek is a 1987 partnership between the Perrins of Château de Beaucastel and the Haases of US importer Vineyard Brands. After years of touring America together, Jacques Perrin and Robert Haas were sure that California suited the Rhône's grapes and set up their own winery.

In 1989 they bought 50 hectares in west Paso Robles, 12 miles from the Pacific, on rocky limestone soils much like Beaucastel's. Hot days and cool nights at around 450 metres ripen the grapes fully and keep them fresh. They brought in cuttings from Beaucastel and run their own nursery.

The vines are never irrigated. They have been organic since 2003, biodynamic since 2017, and in 2020 Tablas Creek became the first winery with Regenerative Organic Certification. Expect intense, characterful Rhône-style blends and single-grape wines.
