Telmo Rodríguez

Telmo Rodríguez is one of the great names in Spanish wine. Three decades back, he and business partner Pablo Eguzkiza set off on a long journey to rediscover Spain's lost wine heritage.

They backed forgotten areas, old-fashioned categories and grapes that were close to dying out, finding top sites in Cebreros, Rioja, Galicia, Málaga, Alicante and Ribera. Their cellar work lets the vineyards do the talking. Oak is used with care and cement is used a lot, which gives the wines rare life and clarity.

Telmo's family background is the old Remelluri estate in Rioja Alavesa, and he and Pablo founded Bodega Lanzaga there in 1998. They have also brought back the old idea of a Corriente, an everyday Rioja for the table.
