Tenuta Valdipiatta
Tenuta Valdipiatta is a family estate right in the middle of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano zone in Tuscany. Giulio Caporali bought it at the end of the 1980s, and his daughter Miriam has run it since 2002.
In 2010 Miriam asked the Bordeaux winemaker Eric Boissenot to help in the cellar. He also advises some of the biggest names in Bordeaux. Of the estate's 30 hectares, 22 are vineyard, mostly Sangiovese, which locals here call Prugnolo Gentile.
Expect reds that are smooth and graceful, with good structure and lively acidity. One of the oldest plots, first planted by the estate's original farmer, sits on clay with a little volcanic soil and gives a particularly silky style.
