Producer Veneto, Italy

Terrapieno

Terrapieno is a project in Verona run by friends who have worked side by side for more than 20 years. The idea is single-site wines that show off the very best of the area.

The winemaking is done by Matt Thomson, of Blank Canvas. Luca Degani of Cantina Valpantena and the late Gaetano Tobin of Cantina di Monteforte supplied fruit from their top vineyards. Gaetano died in 2021, and winemaker Selen Uyar now looks after production. All the grapes come from 12 hectares that the team planted and look after themselves.

The name means embankment, an old way of building up earth to strengthen walls in the northeast of Italy. Those banks once held food and wine stores too, which suits a group of friends who often met over a meal and a bottle. Look for fresh Soave and rich, smooth Valpolicella Ripasso.
