Terrazze dell'Etna

Terrazze dell'Etna is on the northwest side of Mount Etna in Sicily. Antonio Bevilacqua, a Sicilian engineer, started buying land here in 2008 and set about restoring the old terraced vineyards that give the winery its name.

His daughter Alessia now runs 40 hectares of their own vines plus 20 more they rent, all between 600 and 950 metres up. Warm days, cool nights and volcanic soil keep yields low and give wines with real intensity and a lovely scent.

Most of the vines are Nerello Mascalese, with a little Nerello Cappuccio to soften its firm tannins. Consultant winemaker Roberto Muccifori brings freshness and clarity to the wines. There is even a white made from the red Nerello grape, pressed without skin contact.
