Producer Marlborough, New Zealand

Tinpot Hut

Fiona Turner, a winemaker, and her husband Hamish started Tinpot Hut in 2003. They planted a 20-hectare vineyard in Blind River, a newer corner of Marlborough in New Zealand.

The name comes from an old mustering hut in the area, a nod to the sheep farming that came before the vines. Fiona's own Home Block supplies much of the fruit, topped up with grapes from chosen local growers. Her long-time friend Matt Thomson of Blank Canvas lends a hand.

The Sauvignon Blanc mixes herby, mineral Blind River fruit with tropical flavours from the Lower Wairau. There is also a spicy Pinot Gris, a lighter, lime-fresh Riesling, a rich late harvest Riesling and a soft, silky Pinot Noir full of black cherry.
