Tufarello
Tufarello is a Puglia winery in the Fantini group, which Valentino Sciotti founded in 1994. Danilo Gizzi of the Fantini team makes the wine, with Alberto Antonini as consultant.
The focus is Nero di Troia, grown around Canosa di Puglia on 30 hectares of old bush vines. The grape is named after the nearby town of Troia, not the ancient city of Troy.
In the cellar the aim is to keep the fruit fresh and lively. The wine ferments in steel and sits on its skins for about two weeks, enough for flavour and grip without harsh tannins. A little oak adds richness. The result is a sturdy red with lovely depth and character.
