Producer Campania, Italy

Vesevo

Vesevo is in the Irpinia hills of Campania, sometimes called the Switzerland of the South. Its terraced vines grow between 450 and 700 metres up, cooled by a steady breeze from the Bay of Naples.

Winery at Avellino, Campania.

For centuries that same wind has carried ash from Vesuvius inland, leaving rich volcanic soils. Winemaker Antonio Melone aims to carry those vineyard flavours into the bottle.

The reds are made from Aglianico, one of Italy's great grapes, including a Taurasi from higher plots. The whites, Greco di Tufo and Falanghina, ferment cool to keep their flavours pure, with flowery scents and a mineral edge.
