Veyder-Malberg
Peter Veyder-Malberg started out in graphic design and advertising. Then he spent years making wine around the world, in Germany, Tuscany, Napa and New Zealand, before coming home to Austria. Since 2008 he has made wine in the Wachau.
He farms four hectares of organic vines, mostly in the cooler west of the valley, and grows Riesling and Grüner Veltliner. He does not use the usual Wachau quality grades, which are based on ripeness and alcohol. He feels they do not help make fine wine. Instead he makes the wine each vineyard wants to give. The results are precise and deep, and show both the year and the place.
