Vico
Domaine Vico is now seen as one of the top producers in Corsica. Back in 1901, Jean Vico planted 49 hectares in the island's northeast, but the estate later fell into neglect.
In 1986 it was bought by two friends who saw what it could be, François Acquaviva and Jean-Marc Venturi. They rebuilt the winery, farmed more gently and put the focus on Corsican grapes such as Sciaccarellu, Niellucciu and Biancu Gentile. Jean-Marc's son Manu joined in the late 1990s and runs the domaine today.
Unlike most on the island, Vico's vines sit inland in the mountain foothills, at around 300 metres on sandstone, schist and volcanic soils. They are farmed organically and biodynamically. The wines have depth and a fresh, mineral feel, from crisp Vermentinu to bright, cherry-scented reds.
