Vignamaggio

Vignamaggio is a lovely old estate high in the hills above Greve, right in the heart of Chianti in Tuscany. It was built in the 15th century by the noble Gherardini family. Local legend says their daughter was the model for the Mona Lisa.

Up here the nights are cooler, which takes the edge off the summer heat, and deep clay soils hold on to water. The wines are built on Sangiovese and are loved for their elegance and purity.

New owners have brought fresh energy. They have restored the old buildings and run the estate as a medieval gran giardino, with vines growing among olive groves, vegetable gardens, orchards and woods.
