Villa di Petrognano

Villa di Petrognano is a small estate in Pomino, in the hills of Tuscany. Francesco Giuntini of the Selvapiana winery began renting it in 1993. These days the wine is made by his son, Federico Giuntini Masseti, helped by consultant Franco Bernabei.

Pomino has grown French grapes since the 1850s, when Vittorio degli Albizi brought vine cuttings home from France. So the reds here mix Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which sets them apart from most Tuscan reds. Expect deep colour, rich red and black fruit and soft tannins, plus a mineral white based on Chardonnay.
