Villa Matilde
Villa Matilde started out in the 1960s as the dream of Francesco Paolo Avallone, a lawyer from Naples. He was fascinated by Falernum, the most prized wine of ancient Rome.
His years of digging into its history led to the Falerno del Massico DOC being created in 1989. As well as Falerno, the estate makes fine wines from vineyards in some of Campania's best spots, including Irpinia, upper Caserta and the Sannio.
Today Francesco's children run the winery and are fully committed to carrying on their father's work. In 2009 they started a zero emissions project, with low-use machinery that runs on biofuel.
