Viña Mayor

Viña Mayor sits on the Golden Mile of Ribera del Duero in Spain, very close to Vega Sicilia. It dates from 1986.

No winery in Ribera del Duero earned Wineries for Climate Protection status before it did, thanks to its work on regenerative farming. That includes bringing rare local plants and wildlife back into the vineyards. Part of the estate is certified organic, and the winery runs fully on certified renewable energy.

Since 2025 the winemaker has been Álvaro Izquierdo. He ages all the wines in a mix of French and American oak, which he feels suits the bold local fruit. The reds are mostly Tempranillo, from juicy young styles to rich, longer-aged ones.
