Producer Ica Valley, Peru

Viñas Queirolo

The Queirolo family moved from Genoa in Italy to Peru in 1877. Before long, Santiago Queirolo opened the Queirolo Tavern in Lima, which became famous, and began making everyday wine and pisco. Their pisco is now the top brand in Peru.

In 2000 a new generation decided to take the wine side in a new direction, with help from leading French consultants. They bought land in the Ica Valley, an oasis in the desert some hours south of Lima and 60km from the Pacific. It has sun all year, big swings between day and night temperatures and a cooling sea breeze.

They carved brand new vineyards out of steep, rocky hillsides and gave the winery a full upgrade. Head winemaker Luis Gomez, from Argentina, makes fresh, pure wines with a quiet, old-world structure.
