Wieninger

Fritz Wieninger is one of the leaders of the New Vienna wine movement, mixing a modern outlook with the traditions of his city and his family, who have made wine for more than 100 years.

He farms 50 hectares of biodynamic vines on two hills either side of the Danube. Bisamberg is drier and sunnier, with light sandy loess that gives fresh, zesty wines. Nussberg has shell, limestone and clay, for richer, deeper fruit.

Alongside Riesling and Pinot Noir, he makes Wiener Gemischter Satz, Vienna's own white. It is a field blend of many grapes, grown, picked and fermented together, so it tastes of the vineyard rather than one variety.
