Producer Waitaki Valley North Otago, New Zealand
Wild Earth
Quintin Quider, a Californian who has lived on New Zealand's South Island for many years, started Wild Earth in 1998. Its vineyards are in Bannockburn, Central Otago, above the Kawarau River where Felton Road ends.
It is a small team, with Jen Parr making the wine and Gary Crabbe in the vineyard, and they have one goal: the best Pinot Noir and Riesling their vines can give.
Pinot Noir is the speciality. It is a blend from several Central Otago sites, partly made with whole bunches, and full of cherry, red berries and wild herbs. The Riesling comes from limestone soils in the Waitaki Valley and is just off-dry, with a crisp, mineral finish.
