Grão Vasco

Grão Vasco is named after Vasco Fernandes, a Renaissance painter who lived and worked in Viseu, the main town of the Dão. The labels show his famous portrait of Saint Peter, painted for Viseu Cathedral.

Winemaker Beatriz Cabral de Almeida makes the wines at the modern Quinta dos Carvalhais winery, using grapes from growers she trusts. Neither wine sees oak, so they are bright, modern and full of fruit, with the freshness the Dão is known for.

The red blends Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Jaen and Alfrocheiro, and is soft and easy to drink. The white is made from Encruzado, Malvasia Fina, Bical and Gouveio, with citrus, flowers and lively acidity. Both are great value.
